Strict rules to follow
Following numerous abuses and serious accidents, the coach sector is subject to strict rules regarding driving times, rest periods, and on-board instructions. Here's a brief summary
Rules of conduct on board (non-exhaustive list):
All passengers must remain seated with their seat belts fastened, It is strictly forbidden to smoke on board or to handle incandescent instruments (lighters, etc.), It is not advisable to eat or drink on board when the vehicle is moving: in the event of sudden braking or avoidance there is a risk of soiling (spilling a drink) and serious injury (choking on a mouthful that goes down badly), Any behavior likely to distract the driver is prohibited (music, shouting, passengers standing, throwing objects, drumming or hitting windows or seats, etc.).
In the event of an accident and/or injuries caused by a passenger's inappropriate behavior, insurance companies may refuse to pay out! Likewise, the driver may stop and refuse to continue the journey.
Driving and rest times (summary):
Driving time cannot exceed 9 hours per day, A 45-minute break must be taken every 4.5 hours of driving (break during which passengers can get out, go to the toilet, do some shopping, etc.), The working time cannot exceed 14 hours between the driver's starting parking place and the driver's end-of-service parking place, If this range exceeds 14 hours, you must either provide 2 drivers or allow 9 hours of rest during the day. A daily rest of at least 9 hours is mandatory between 2 services (if the driver finishes at 10 p.m., he cannot resume before 7 a.m. the next day).
